Pep Guardiola has delivered a stirring speech to his staff at Manchester City’s training ground, congratulating them for all their hard work as City won the Premier League title for the third time in seven years.
The players would have of course, preferred to win the title when they were playing themselves, but instead, they benefitted from Manchester United 0-1 home defeat to bottom club West Brom to seal the crown.
The Citizens have dominated the league from start to finish and are in line to break a whole heap of records including goals scored, points amassed and biggest winning margin. Kevin de Bruyne could be in line to win the PFA Player of the Season award although he is in close competition with Mo Salah, who has been fantastic for Liverpool in his first season at the club.
Breaking the points record would require 13 points from the last fifteen available but judging by Pep Guardiola’s sides form this season they should be able to get that total.
The Citizens face Swansea, Huddersfield and Brighton at home and take on West Ham and Southampton on the road. That final game on the south coast could be a great celebration for the away fans but the hosts are battling relegation and will be keen for the points.
Watch the speech below as Guardiola credits everybody from the laundry staff to his players. The test now is if he can repeat the trick next season whilst other clubs strengthen over the summer.
