Manchester City have released the first trailer for their eagerly-awaited Amazon Prime documentary series and it looks fascinating.

Having optimistically announced the documentary at the beginning of the season, even knowing how it ends doesn’t dilute the anticipation for this fairly unique television experience.

Manager Pep Guardiola has made good on his promise and delivered the title to the Etihad, breaking several records along the way. A film crew has been following the Cityzens almost every step as they have marauded through the Premier League, defeating every single other team at some point of their campaign, scoring more goals and gaining more points than any team before them.

Diving head-first into hyperbole with the distinct title of ‘All or Nothing’, the series promises the delve behind the scenes of one of the Premier League’s top clubs as they work their way to their fifth title as champions of England’s top division.

Controversy reigned when cross-town rivals and previous shadow-casters Manchester United refused them permission to film inside Old Trafford during the first derby match of the season, resulting in more rambunctious celebrations from the City players following their 2-1 win at United’s ground than would have been generally expected.

As football fans, we rarely get to have such an opportunity to ‘get behind the curtain’ and see the inner workings of any league club, let alone the champions of England. Access to players as well are filtered either through mind-numblingly dull media trained post-match interviews, or occasional privileged Instagram glimpses.

Whether you’re a fan of City or not, this appears a must-watch for any football fan, and can hopefully dispel any remaining memories of ‘This Is Anfield’, when we were treated to seeing Brendan Rodgers’ portrait of himself in his own home, as he filled in the void with David Brent’s absence from our TV screens.

Whether the series focuses on just the Premier League or takes into account City’s  more unsuccessful Champions League and FA Cup campaigns, remains to be seen. It would be a brave editor to suggest the inclusion of ‘one-nil Will Grigg’.

The date when the series will be released is yet to be revealed, but as Guardiola exclaims in the trailer, we are close, we are so close.
