A match of fantastic potential tonight, as Crystal Palace invite Liverpool to Selhurst Park to round off this weekend’s fixture list in the Premier League.
It’s been a fantastic Game Week all around the top tier of English football which the excitement one hopes can be extended into this Monday evening.
No-one will know better than Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp that, despite all of their sumptuous attacking football, that Premier League champions Manchester City remain the benchmark in the English football at the moment, demonstrated expertly in a home rout of Huddersfield; a 6-1 win at the Etihad enhanced by the fact that the Blues completed a remarkable 94% of their 742 passes in the 90 minutes yesterday.
Liverpool themselves started the season in emphatic fashion, making a mockery of West Ham’s recent spending power with a 4-0 demolishing on Merseyside, and look to continue this relentless show-no-mercy style of football against Roy Hodgson’s team tonight.
It’s a game in which a few sneaky records could be broken. Wilfried Zaha recently signed a brand spanking new contract in South London worth £130,000 per week, and would like to reward his commitment to the Eagles with at least that one goal that will allow him top become Palace’s Premier League all-time record goalscorer.
On the flip-side, Liverpool’s Sadio Mané will become the first Reds player to net in three successive league meetings with Palace if he scores tonight. Crystal Palace haven’t beaten Liverpool since the back-end of 2015, marking Klopp’s one-month anniversary with a 2-1 win at Anfield.
The match kicks off at 8pm and The Sportsman will be offering coverage all through the evening, so stay with us right here!
