The Blues currently sit three points clear at the top of the Premier League

Table-topping Chelsea have had an incredible start to the 2021/22 Premier League season and under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel the Blues look good value to clinch the title for the first time since 2017. With a three point gap at the top of the league and just one defeat from 11, things are looking promising at Stamford Bridge.

POSITION: 1st

TOP SCORER: Reece James (4)

BETFRED ODDS: 5/2 to win the title.

LAST THREE RESULTS:

Drew 1-1 with Burnley (H)

Won 3-0 against Newcastle United (A)

Won 7-0 against Norwich City (H)

VERDICT:

The Blues are league leaders for a reason. They are defensively compact and devastating on the break. The fact that wing-back James is their top scorer in the league shows the range of quality Tuchel has at his disposal and hey have played like champions and it seems they are only going to get better as the season goes on. They have had to deal with injuries and absences of key players in recent weeks, including strikers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner who will provide a huge boost to their title challenge when they return to full fitness.

FANS’ VERDICT:

Dan Jackson – Futbol Chelsea

As a Chelsea fan, it's been a very good start to the season. If you had asked any Chelsea fan at the start of the season that by November, we were top of the table, three points ahead of City and four ahead of Liverpool, every fan would have been delighted. It's safe to say that we very much look like a team that is more than capable of winning the league. Chelsea have a world class starting 11, world class depth, a world class coach and have excellently built on the progress we made under Tuchel last season. And the scary thing is, Chelsea have not been anywhere near their best this season.

MANAGER VERDICT:

The job Tuchel has done, picking up the pieces of a fragile side left behind by Frank Lampard, has been remarkable. He has not even been in the job a year and he has already taken his players to new levels, particularly his defenders. One thing he will need to work on is playing to the strengths of record signing Lukaku if he is to get the best out of him.

FANS' MANAGER VERDICT:

When Lampard was sacked, whilst it was the right move, it would have taken a very special manager to have come in and got every fan back on side with the board and the club - in comes Tuchel. Since he was appointed, Tuchel has been the perfect manager for every Chelsea fan.

He came in, adapted to the players and created a fantastic system with many players that were regarded as nothing more than average under Frank Lampard. Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Jorginho, just to name a few, went from average squad players to world class first teamers since Tuchel was appointed.

He steered Chelsea from 10th place to a place in the top four, brought Chelsea to the FA Cup final where they ultimately lost, but then not long after, won the Champions League with Chelsea, nine years after the first. Onto this season and Chelsea have only progressed with Tuchel. He has made it clear that the aim for this season is to win the league and Chelsea look everything like a title winning team.

MID-TERM GRADE:

A – The Blues have been very impressive so far and with a solid defence and goal contributions across the pitch, they are one of the strongest contenders for the title.
