Contract talks between Ivan Rakitic and Barcelona have stalled according to a report today which could open the door for the Croatian to leave the Nou Camp.
Sky Sports are reporting via Onda Cero that the Catalan giants have decided against handing the former Sevilla star the new contract he wants, and instead will be made to wait until the summer at the earliest.
Rakitic was linked with a host of clubs during the summer, including PSG and Chelsea, and those two in particular are likely to be keeping across this latest situation.
The 30-year-old does have a contract at the La Liga club until 2021 but he has clearly been angling for a new deal and this latest news could see his situation change in Spain.
The midfield maestro wouldn't be short of suitors if he does decided to push for a move away as a result of this news with his passing ability amongst the best in the world.
Rakitic has been a key part of the Barcelona squad since arriving from Seville in 2014 but if this latest report is to be believed, this could be his last season at the Nou Camp. The reports today suggest that he has been told to wait for a new deal, but will he be happy to sit on his hands?
Barcelona will have a decision to make on Rakitic in the summer as they look to the future. Is Rakitic going to be part of the next two or three years, or is now the time to cash in on a player who will still fetch a handsome fee?
