PSG Demand €40M From Valencia For World Cup Striker

Although it’s true that he had an awful World Cup with Portugal, the tournament wasn’t a fair reflection of Goncalo Guedes’ talents.

The winger was a revelation for Valencia throughout 2017/18, and his desire to stay with Los Che – he was on loan from Paris Saint-Germain – is total.

That is reciprocated by the club who see him as an integral part of their squad going forward, and, for the immediate future, someone who’ll help them be successful in Europe as they head back into the Champions League.

The stumbling block is the price that the French team are still insisting upon.

A reasonably low buyout clause at the beginning of his loan increased to around the €40 million euro mark by the end of it.

Whilst that’s not beyond Valencia and their owner Peter Lim, they’ll not want to pay the full price just to help PSG out with their Financial Fair Play issues.

After bringing in Neymar and Kylian Mbappe last summer, Nasser Al-Khelaifi needs to raise in the region of €90m in player sales, so it stands to reason they’ll hold out for as much as possible for Guedes.

With Real Madrid and Manchester United also reportedly interested, it could turn into an auction for the highest bidder.

Aside from his obvious footballing skills, Guedes is a model professional. When was the last time you saw him falling out of a nightclub drunk, or in the company of a string of women? Exactly.

Seen him on social media lately showing off his new haircut? Nope. Don’t even go looking because you won’t find him there. The term ‘eat, sleep and drink football’ could’ve been invented for the young Portuguese.

Valencia coach, Marcelino, is a strict disciplinarian, and the professionalism with which Guedes carries himself off of the pitch, and his utter dedication to the cause on it, are all brownie points in his favour.

Regardless, with five goals and nine assists last season, the need for Valencia to keep hold of him is obvious. Despite being just 21 years of age, none of his team-mates can compare with that output.

What’s more, he’s only going to get better and better.

He is utterly fearless and his direct running scares the living daylights out of defenders.

Known for his dribbling ability, he’s no one-trick-pony and his awareness for one so young is especially pleasing. Indeed, his passing ability is directly correlated to the natural skill of knowing where his team-mates are on the pitch at any given time.

In short, it’s hard to pinpoint a weakness in his game and Valencia’s ability to keep hold of him could affect just how well they do in 2018/19.

Yes, he’s that important.
