It's not often you find a seventeen-time Grand Slam winner in your lap on Centre Court but that is exactly what happened to one (lucky) lady at Wimbledon on Wednesday.
Juan Martin Del Potro smashed what seemed like a certain winner with an overhead volley but his heart would have been in his mouth when he saw Rafael Nadal scrambling to reach it. The Spaniard couldn't quite get there but his momentum carried him over the hoardings and into the crowd.
Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident and Nadal could see the funny side as he smiled, shook hands with the adoring fans he had intruded upon before returning to the court to continue his epic battle with Del Potro.
The incident was just a small part of a truly monumental encounter as the Centre Court of SW19 was scene to what is likely to be one of the greatest tennis matches of the year. Nadal and Del Potro slugged it out in a quarter-final that lasted almost five hours, with Nadal eventually winning 7-5, 6-7 (7-9), 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Del Potro slumped to the floor when defeat was confirmed before Nadal came across the net to console his defeated opponent, with the pair then sharing a warm embrace.
On a night when Wimbledon was competing with England's World Cup semi-final for television air time, they couldn't have asked for a better sporting encounter as Nadal eventually won through to set up a semi-final meeting with Novak Djokovic on Friday.
It was Nadal's never-say-die attitude that arguably saw him across the line on Wednesday and you can see his foray into the seating area of SW19 in the video below.
