Rafael Nadal has finished the year as world number one in the ATP rankings after a 7-5, 6-3 win over Chung Hyeon in the Paris Masters.
This result sees Nadal progress to the last 16, but more importantly for the Spaniard, finish the year as the number one for the fourth time.
It has been a stunning year for the 31-year-old, who won the French Open for the tenth time, as well as winning the US Open and reaching the final of the Australian Open. His only disappointment came at Wimbledon where he lost in the fourth round to Giles Muller in a marathon of a fifth set but despite this, his year has been outstanding.
Nadal has finished the calendar year as number one in three previous years, 2008, 2010 and 2013. He sealed this years' accolade with a comprehensive win over the South Korean which puts him over 1000 points ahead of closest challenger Roger Federer, a gap that is insurmountable.
The Spaniard will face Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas in the round of 16 as he attempts to win another title this year.
Vamos Rafa! We can't wait to see you in 2018!
