Genoa star sensation Krzysztof Piatek is a surprise target for Real Madrid as they bid to ignite their season.
Polish star Piatek has been one of the stories of the season in Italy and his goal-scoring record makes for amazing reading. He has 19 goals from 21 appearances and it's that record which has earned him attention from the European Champions.
Real Madrid are lacking firepower at present - Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are both injured - and they're apparently keen on Piatek who moved to Genoa from Cracovia Krakow for £4million. Real have managed only 28 goals in 19 games as they struggle to compensate for the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo who joined Juventus last summer.
AS reports that Real have spoken to the player's representatives about a January switch though they will face competition from Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Piatek has also been scouted by AC Milan but any deal would hinge on the future of Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentinian striker - currently on loan from Juventus - continues to be linked with a move to Chelsea. Higuain worked with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri while at Napoli but a loan deal doesn't interest Juventus - they would rather make some money on the player.
As yet no offer has been made but it's understood that Real are expecting to pay around £45million for the player. Genoa would prefer to retain the player for the rest of the season but if an offer comes in this month they will be powerless to resist.
