Liverpool fans were livid when PSG's Marco Veratti only picked up a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Joe Gomez.

PSG were 1-0 up in this crucial Champions League tie thanks to a goal from Juan Bernat when Italian Verratti was late and high on Gomez, connecting with his calf.

Liverpool players were incensed and Jordan Henderson showed his fury by ranting at referee Szymon Marciniak's face.A card came but it was only yellow and Liverpool fans took to Twitter to vent their anger.

It got even worse for Liverpool as Neymar nipped in for a second goal before half-time. A penalty from James Milner gave Jurgen Klopp's side hope for the second half.

Steve Patton‏ @stevepatta101 fumed:  "Verratti should have walked there....red all day long, out of control, high and dangerous."

Paul Keating agreed: "Disgusting tackle by that little fat p-ick #Veratti... As obvious a red card as you'll ever see.. F-cking terrible decision by referee."

Paddy Duff argued: "If that Veratti tackle was on any PSG player they’d still be rolling around and it’d be a straight red ... naive from Gomez jumping up straight away."

Joe Connolly fumed: "How is Veratti still on the pitch??? Literally right infront of the referee" while  Lewis Barton‏ stated: "Verratti could have easily seen red there... lucky that Gomez didn’t react to the challenge."

Michael Mooney also mentioned Gomez: "Gomez not making enough of that challenge. Shocking from Veratti. A snide scream from Joe and it may have made the refs mind up."

Liam‏ agreed: " Verratti shouldn’t be on the pitch. Funny how most #PSG players go down from the slightest touch but he only got booked for that, terrible challenge and a worse referee."

Kenny Gaughan‏ argued: "#Veratti deserves red for that. Only coz #Gomez didn't roll about like #Neymar / #Mbappe would have. How is that good refereeing? A bad tackle should be a bad tackle, not how well the player playacts afterwards." #PSGLFC
