Though he hasn’t yet started in the league under new interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Scott McTominay's sporadic appearances for Manchester United in their topsy-turvy 2018/19 season has meant the midfielder has been rewarded with a brand-spanking new contract.
After a new four-year deal, the Scotland international is now contracted at Manchester United under 2023.
McTominay was granted his first-team debut in 2016/17 and has gone on to make 33 appearances for the Red Devils, most recently playing the full 90 minutes in United’s 2-0 defeat of Reading in the third-round of the FA Cup, and coming on for the final minute of the side’s excellent win over Spurs at Wembley.
Upon putting him signature down on the contract, McTominay was quick to display his joy at extending his time at his boyhood club;
'Manchester United has been my life since the age of five and playing for the club I've always supported is all I've ever wanted to do.
'I'm still young and I'm learning all the time from the manager, his coaching staff and from the world-class players in the squad. I can't wait to continue my progress at this great club.' (The Mail)
The 22-year-old is reported to be earning around £30,000 per week, an increase on the £25,000 he was already on. In the final half of the 2017/18 season under Jose Mourinho, McTominay asserted his first-team credentials, featuring in ten of their last 13 league games.
Manchester United’s next fixture is in the fourth round of the FA Cup, taking on Premier League rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Friday 25th January.
Congratulations, @McTominay10! 🙌
