Roger Federer has weighed in on the great Wimbledon-World Cup debate as two of the sporting highlights of the entire year are set to clash on Sunday afternoon.
Wimbledon organisers have refused to bow to pressure to move Sunday's men's singles final from its traditional 2pm start time in order to avoid a potential clash with the World Cup final, which kicks off at 4pm.
There is the possibility that England will be involved in the final in Russia and that could possibly have a significant impact on the viewing figures for the Wimbledon finale.
Roger Federer remained philosophical about the situation during his post-match interview after beating Adrian Mannarino on Monday though as he jokingly raised concerns about how people watching the World Cup would cope with not knowing what was going on at SW19,
"Regardless of whether I'm in the final or not, the Wimbledon final will take place and so will the World Cup final," said Federer.
"I'm more concerned that the World Cup final is going to have issues because the Wimbledon final is on. They'll be hearing everything that is going on, every point, going 'oh, wow', love-15, 15-30. And then the players will be looking up in the crowd because they don't understand what is going on at Wimbledon.
"That's how important Wimbledon is to me and the people involved here. Maybe you should ask the same questions [about the potential clash] to the people over in Russia."
