It was the Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Williams show at this year’s World Snooker Awards ceremony with both players picking up a duo of silverware.

The Rocket – winner of five ranking events this season – picked up the main Player of the Year award as well as the Fans’ Player of the Year following voting on social media. This success comes in a season where Ronnie has won more events and won more prize money than any other year as a professional.

Williams – the recently crowned world champion – won awards for the Snooker Writers’ Player of the Year and Performance of the Year following his dramatic triumph at the Crucible. This landmark season has seen the Welshman win three titles to surpass 20 in his career and boasted his position as one of the sport’s most colourful characters.

Elsewhere on a star-studded night at the Dorchester Hotel in London, Michael Georgiou got his hands on silverware again with the Magic Moment of the Year following his maiden ranking event win at The Shoot Out back in February.

This year’s Rookie of the Year Award went to China’s Xu Si whose impressive first season on tour included a run to the semi-finals of the Indian Open.

The night finished with the sport’s supremo Barry Hearn and Ding Junhui being inducted into the Snooker Hall of Fame.

There’s now a two-month summer break on the baize before the first ranking event of the season gets under way in Riga at the back end of July. But before then, there will be a number of Q School qualifying events to define which players will make up next season’s 128-man strong professional tour.
