Ryanair Chase Or Cheltenham Gold Cup? Frodon In The Frame For Two Festival Races After Trials Day Win

Ryanair Chase Or Cheltenham Gold Cup? Frodon In The Frame For Two Festival Races After Trials Day Win

Racing fans love an opinion on the road to Cheltenham and Frodon is the latest horse to come under the microscope.

The Paul Nicholls trained star hit the headlines on Saturday with a win in the Cotswold Chase on Cheltenham Festival Trials Day but no sooner had the horse crossed the line, than the debate about his March target began to rage.

Connections have immediately selected the Cheltenham Gold Cup as the likely Festival aim after the big win over 3m at the weekend but plenty are suggesting that the Ditcheat star would have a much better chance of glory in the Ryanair Chase.

Bryony Frost was once again on board the horse who continued his remarkable rise with the duo just holing on from the fast finishing Elegant Escape who was closing down the winner with every single stride.

Conventional wisdom was that the horses went slow in the Cotswold Chase and that a fast run Cheltenham Gold Cup over 3m2f would stretch out the 7-year-olds stamina to the limits.

The Paul Nicholls trained star was 5th of six in the Ryanair Chase last year but has looked better than ever this winter with a win in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup off 164 before Christmas enough to earn him shot back up in trip in the Cotswold.

Nicholls and the owners feel the horses deserves to take his chance in the blue-riband contest on the final day of the Festival but social media has been awash with opinions over a horse who continues to rise in popularity.

If he was yours, which race would you run Frodon in?
