Eddie Pepperell is quickly becoming a man of the people. The English golfer is well worth a follow on Twitter for his witty asides and it will be worth applauding his next shot if you happen to be in the audience.
The 27-year-old, who admitted that he shot a final round 67 whilst hungover at The Open Championship at Carnoustie last month, caught the headlines by giving away one of his clubs to a lucky fan at the Czech Masters on Sunday.
Pepperell revealed in an interview following his final round in the Czech Republic that he had given a lucky fan his lob wedge for applauding his final shot.
“He told me my ball hit a sprinkler on the last and kicked on and he gave me a clap for my shot.
He was the only one I heard clapping so I said, ‘Here you go, you can have my lob wedge.'”
Pepperell told the interviewer, "If he's still around he can have the other 13 [clubs]". The video below goes to show that it is always worth appreciating good golf!
Pepperell signed for a final round 71 on Sunday as he eventually finished tied for 9th at the Czech Masters. It was a result that keeps him in contention for a place in Europe's Ryder Cup team, although he must win the final qualifying event this week.
Victory at the Made In Denmark, allied with Thorbjorn Olesen finishing tied 7th or worse, would see Pepperell qualify as one of the eight automatic picks for Thomas Bjorn's team to take on USA for the Ryder Cup, which takes place at Le Golf National from 28-30 September.
