Sacked Manchester United Boss Jose Mourinho Issues Statement Which Ends ''Merry Christmas''
Sacked Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has released a statement following his departure from the club saying he was "immensely proud" to be their manager. It also ends with message 'Merry Christmas' which would seem to be a rather pointed comment given he's been sacked days before December 25.
He left the club on Tuesday morning, days after a dismal 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has subsequently been appointed as the club's interim manager until the end of the season. Mike Phelan returns to the club as first team coach.
The statement said: "I have been immensely proud to wear the badge of Manchester United since the first day I arrived, and I believe all United supporters recognise this. Just as was the case with my previous clubs, I have worked with some wonderful people and I believe that some will be my friends for life.
"I know that you are all aware of my professional principles. Each time a chapter is closed I show my deepest respect and I don't make any comments about my former colleagues.
"I hope the media will also respect my position and let me live my normal life until the moment I decide to return to football.
Mourinho has already been linked with several clubs after his departure from Manchester including Inter Milan and Real Madrid. United have said they won't make a permanent appointment until the summer with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino believed to be the top target.
