The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza - better known as San Siro, the famous and historic home of AC Milan and Inter Milan, is set to be demolished to make way for a more modern structure that will cost in excess of £1 billion.

Major changes will be made to the current structure starting in January 2024, with the ground known for its 11 striking tower footways set to be upgraded into a state-of-the-art stadia that is believed to be named ‘The Cathedral’. It is hoped that the new stadium will be erected in time for the beginning of the 2027-28 campaign.

The memory-filled arena has been home to the two bitter rivals of Milan since 1926 but both clubs approved plans to demolish the iconic structure at the back end of 2021.

Originally, design plans for the new structure suggested that at least one of the memorable 11 towers would be incorporated into The Cathedral, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the new build will not involve any remnants of the past.

According to Corriere della Sera, Inter and Milan estimate an increase in revenues of £105 million, of which £70 million comes from the stadium sector and £35 million from the marketing sector. A convention centre and a mega shopping centre of 68 thousand square metres are also being planned.
