Scotland Fans Launch Scathing Social Media Attack On Alex McLeish After 3-1 Defeat To Portugal

Scotland Fans Launch Scathing Social Media Attack On Alex McLeish After 3-1 Defeat To Portugal
19:05, 14 Oct 2018

Alex McLeish watched his Scotland side lose 3-1 to a weakened Portugal in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday night and the fans were not happy with what they saw at Hampden Park.

A 2-1 defeat to Israel a few days ago in the same tournament put the pressure on the Scots heading into tonight's clash with the former European champions, but with the Portugal side not including a certain Cristiano Ronaldo and having made ten changes from their win over Poland on Thursday then the home crowd expected their side to challenge for the win.

However, goals from Helder Costa, Eder and Bruma launched the visiting Portuguese side to a comfortable win with Steven Naismith's late consolation the only positive to take away from the result.

McLeish, who took up the job in February, will now come under pressure for his side's lack of quality and the Scottish football fans didn't hold back when unleashing their angle on Twitter in the aftermath of the game.

Dear SFA, please sack Alex McLeish ASAP. Thanks #SCOPOR [shepthepostie]

Portugal (reserves) have barely broken into a jog here and it’s 3-0. They aren’t even bothered. The excuse for the Belgium thumping was that it was Belgium. What’s the excuse for this? #SCOPOR [PaulMacdSport]

Bye bye Alex, you were never a good fit. All the best. #SCOPOR [Indy_Quint]

Alex McLeish was always going to be slated whatever the lineup, but that’s not the problem. He’s just a dull manager with no game plan or intensity - the reason Scotland players look tired before kick off and our fans are fed up 95% of the time. #SCOPOR 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 [ClarkeHutchison]

disappointing to see McLeish tutting and shaking his head as Portugal pop the ball in Scotland's net. YOU are the manager! (hopefully not for much longer) #SFA get someone in who has a clue about modern tactics. #SCOPOR [annewitha_e]

Does anyone actually have any faith in the national team now? Know its poor on myself but i cant ve bothered watching the team now, they are losing fans now #SCOPOR [John_MacD97]

A sobering 2nd half performance. Too easy to cut through the defence and get at us from set-pieces. A MUST win for McLeish in Albania. @PureFitbaw #SCOPOR [Dylan_Mac95]

Portugal's reserve team play in second gear and still cruise to victory over Scotland. Awful. #SCOPOR [bainalan05]

For F'eck sake just go man. Scotland 1 Portugal reserves 3 #SCOPOR #HAMPDEN #SFA [scot_sun_journo]

Scotland's next two games will see them make the journey to Albania on November 17, while a home game against Israel three days later will end this year's fixtures for the national team and McLeish is sure to come under significant scrutiny in those brace of matches before we head into the 2019 campaign.
