Sebastian Vettel has got off to a flying start this F1 campaign with two wins from the opening two races, but he is now also receiving plaudits off the track. After his success in the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend, the German was taking questions alongside Lewis Hamilton, who had finished the race in third.
During the race, the British driver had a collision with Max Verstappen as they battled for position on the second lap. Hamilton said: "It was an unnecessary collision. There needs to be a certain respect between drivers. It didn't feel that respectful. It was a silly manoeuvre from him because he didn't finish the race."
After the race, Hamilton was heard swearing about the incident and this is what was picked up by the journalist in question. He asked: “I believe, if my ears are correct, you used the word d*ckhead, after the race concerning Max Verstappen and the overtake and the contact, is that correct?”
But to the surprise of the journalist, Vettel jumped to Hamilton’s rescue asking if he could answer the question. The four-time world champion said the question was unfair and also compared the Formula 1 drivers to footballers, complaining that every time they swear they are not picked up on it. He also accused the journalist of trying to make up a story.
The F1 roadshow continues on to China next weekend as Ferrari look to make it a hat-trick of wins this season. Not since Alain Prost in 1982 has a driver failed to win the title after winning the first two races of an F1 season.
