Serie A Team of the Week - Round 7

GK - Antonio Mirante (Bologna)

Thirty-four-year-old Antonio Mirante helped his Bologna side achieve an important 1-0 win over bottom of the table rivals Genoa this weekend. The stopper made no less than seven saves out of seven shots on target from the Grifone as Bologna moved up to tenth, leaving their opponents second from bottom.

CB - Federico Fazio (Roma)

Roma not only managed to defeat Milan at San Siro on Sunday, but kept an impressive clean sheet in a 2-0 victory for the Giallorossi. New boss Eusebio Di Francesco has his four-man defensive working hard, but Fazio stood out in particular, making 12 clearances in total and blocking one shot from his Rossoneri adversaries.

CB - Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli)

It is no surprise that 26-year-old Kalidou Koulibaly has courted attention from the likes of Chelsea during his Napoli career, and the Senegalese defender put in a typically impressive performance against Cagliari. Scoring a goal in a 3-0 victory, he also registered three tackles and three interceptions whilst maintaining a 98.8% passing accuracy rate.

CB - Mattia Caldara (Atalanta)

Mattia Caldara may have a deal in place to join Juventus next season, but the defender showed no loyalty to his new side when Atalanta pulled off an impressive 2-2 draw with Juventus on Sunday evening. The promising young centre-back scored a goal against his parent club, and rightly celebrated as he peeled away. He also made two tackles, six interceptions and two clearances as the Bianconeri lost their 100% winning record.

LWB - Samir (Udinese)

Udinese pulled off an incredible 4-0 home victory over previously unbeaten Sampdoria on Saturday which was no less impressive even with three penalties awarded. 22-year-old Brazilian Samir did exceptionally well down the left, making four tackles, four interceptions and four clearances as the Friulian side recorded only their second win of the campaign.

CM - Marek Hamsik (Napoli)

Marek Hamsik opened the scoring for Napoli after just four minutes versus Cagliari, his fine strike his 114th total goal for the club. This now moves him within one of Diego Maradona’s Napoli goalscoring tally, and the Partenopei are the only side remaining in Serie A with a 100% record.

CM - Marcelo Brozovic (Inter)

This time it was not Mauro Icardi or Ivan Perisic that gave Inter the points, but midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. The Croatian scored a brace in a narrow 2-1 victory over bottom of the table, drawing the headlines with a stunning free-kick. Inter have now collected 19 points in the first seven matches of a Serie A campaign for the first time since 2002.

RWB - Alessandro Florenzi (Roma)

Not long after returning from two ACL injuries that kept him out for the majority of last season, Alessandro Florenzi is in fine form for Roma. The Italian international put in a superb performance in his first game back against Verona just two weeks ago, and went one step further against Milan on Sunday. Played much further forward than his normal right-back position to deputise for the injured Diego Perotti and Gregoire Defrel, Florenzi responded with a goal and a sublime performance.

FW - Alejandro “Papu” Gomez (Atalanta)

Papu Gomez has been hitting the headlines with his goals in the Europa League group stages and the pint-sized striker fared no differently when Atalanta hosted Juventus in domestic action. A battle with Bianconeri right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner saw the forward come off the victor after the latter was yellow carded and substituted whilst Gomez went on to score for the home side just minutes later.

FW - Luis Alberto  (Lazio)

Lazio fought back from 1-0 down to Sassuolo to register an impressive 6-1 victory at home on Sunday. The 25-year-old put in a star performance as part of that rout, scoring two goals and providing an assist as well as creating a further three chances for team-mates.

ST - Edin Dzeko (Roma)

The former Manchester City man continued a run of form that has seen him score seven goals in the last five games in all competitions against Milan on Sunday. Dzeko fired in the opener after 72 minutes when the match looked like it was heading for stalemate, a crucial statement against a strong rival.
