Should Tottenham Have Had An Injury Time Penalty Against Liverpool?

A late Erik Lamela goal gave Liverpool cause for concern at Wembley before they were able to see out a 2-1 win on Tottenham. It could all have been different though as a foul by Sadio Mane on the returning Son Heung-min inside the box during added time.

Match referee Michael Oliver evidently missed the incident as the Spurs substitute was brought down by Mane and awarded a goal kick after the ball squirted out of play. That was more or less all she wrote as Liverpool played out the title.

In truth, though, it would have been an undeserved turnaround had the home side been handed a penalty and converted it, as the visitors were by far and away the superior side.

The absence of Hugo Lloris in goal was acutely missed, with his replacement Michel Vorm looking off the pace. He failed to cover himself in glory for the visitor's first goal not long before half-time, a looping Georginio Wijnaldum header, and being fully culpable for the second after Roberto Firmino tapped in following a shambles in the six-yard box.

Aside from the late goal and penalty shout scare, the visitors looked impressive and showed little signs of fatigue after the international break. Their hosts, in contrast, were sluggish and more questions will be raised, no doubt, over their failure to recruit anyone in the summer and the wellbeing of Harry Kane, who has himself looked less than full of zest this term.

Have a look at the potential game-changing incident outlined above here.
