Cricket Australia have announced that an investigation has discovered that only Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft knew in advance about the ball-tampering incident that has rocked their tour of South Africa.
The trio will all leave South Africa for Australia tomorrow and they will await to hear of any further sanctions. James Sutherland, the CEO of Cricket Australia, said penalties were likely to be "significant".
The third day of the fourth Test match against South Africa was thrown into controversy on Saturday when television pictures appeared to show Bancroft 'working' on the ball with a yellow piece of tape. Upon realising he had been rumbled, Bancroft hid the offending item in his underwear and led the umpires to believe that he only had a black cloth in his pockets.
The damning television footage led Smith and Bancroft to admit to their indiscretion in a press conference at the close of play, leading to a media circus and serious repercussions that could have a huge impact on the rest of their respective careers.
Matt Renshaw, Glenn Maxwell and Joe Burns will fly to South Africa to replace the disgraced players for the remainder of the tour.
Head coach, Darren Lehman, won't resign and will continue to serve out the remainder of his contract.
