The build-up to the latest step on Tyson Fury’s comeback has been stoked by a slick new trailer for his bout with Deontay Wilder which has been released by BT Sport.
The ‘Gypsy King’ conquered the tallest task in boxing back in 2015, dethroning the long-reigning Ukrainian Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in his own backyard and becoming the unified champion of the division.
What Fury had worked so hard to build would be taken away from him though, as he lost each of his belts one by one without ever stepping back inside the ropes.
A battle with the boxing authorities over a doping case, public dismay over controversial comments, addiction and ongoing mental health problems all dogged the 30-year-old in the subsequent months, with his situation getting so bad that, in his own words, he: “didn’t want to be alive anymore”.
But since putting his backing behind his religious faith and his body in the hands of an untested young trainer, Ben Davidson, he’s managed a remarkable recovery.
The weight - almost ten stone worth of it - has been shed and two tune-up fights have been tucked under the belt.
Now he’s about to take a leap up to the elite level again and take on the undefeated American puncher Deontay Wilder (40-0) in LA this Saturday.
A whistlestop global tour, complete with customary shoving matches, did its bit to build the hype for this fight but this has us firmly in Fury’s corner and awaiting the big fight now.
