Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy Reassures Fans Over Lack Of Transfers

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has given a reasoning for the lack of incoming transfers to the club during the summer window to supporters at a board-to-board meeting with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust.

Levy appeared to directly contradict the claims of his manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who had claimed earlier this year that the impact of Brexit on the Sterling to Euro exchange rate, along with the club’s new training ground and stadium builds, had indeed made moves in the market more difficult.

That new 62,062 ground, on the site of the old White Hart Lane, was due to be ready at the start of this season but the project has run overtime, and will cost an estimated £850m by the time it is complete. The state-of-the-facility will have a retractable second pitch that will allow it to host NFL games.

"The club had based the summer window on certain assumptions that some players might be leaving and certain targets would be available," said Levy.

Before claiming that his Argentine coach: "Didn't want to sign someone for the sake of it. He felt there were sufficient players in the squad, and that those coming back from injury would be like new signings".

"The stadium won't directly impact on the transfer policy. There is a certain amount earmarked for transfers and the club can only spend what is available".

"Transfers were complicated with several variables so it was not possible to work out in advance how much you could spend in a given window".
