Fans of Stoke City Football Club have been given extra reason to cheer this Christmas, as astronaut Major Tim Peake – the first British astronaut into outer space wished them a happy festive period.
One Stoke City fan, Andrew Rushton, who petitioned, and succeeded, in having Tim take the Potters flag up into space on Christmas Day in 2015, was over the moon to hear his hero had wished the club well.
Peake, who has since become a sensation among fans, and released a book earlier this year, even took the time to tweet Rushton from his space station!
Recalling the event, Rushton claimed “He (Peake) made that Christmas an outstanding one. What an outstanding bloke, does he ever stop smiling?! Even when he’s sat on all that rocket fuel!”
Peake taking the flag to space many moons ago was a great cause for celebration, one which can now be relived as the space traveller gives the thumbs up, and wishes the fans a very happy Christmas.
Stoke City were also delighted to hear the news, an official Stoke City FC spokesperson said: “All at Stoke City would like to take this opportunity to wish Tim a very happy Christmas.
As the man who took a Stoke City flag into space we would love to welcome him to a game at the bet365 Stadium at some stage in the New Year.”
It has been a difficult season for Stoke so far, with the club facing the threat of relegation, but this is sure to put a smile on Stoke faces. You can see the video of Tim’s Christmas wish below.
