Sun Maiden Cut For Oaks Glory At Epsom Following Salisbury Demolition

Sun Maiden Cut For Oaks Glory At Epsom Following Salisbury Demolition

Sun Maiden has been slashed in the Oaks Betting following a stunning win on seasonal debut at Salisbury on Thursday afternoon.

The Sir Michael Stoute trained daughter of Frankel destroyed the field to win the fillies' novice stakes, and a trip to Epsom in two weeks now looks on the agenda. The 12 length win certainly took the eye of the bookmakers with Sun Maiden slashed from 66/1 into 20/1 by one firm for the Oaks.

The beautifully bred filly is a half sister to multiple Group 1 winner Midday and she more than lived up to that lofty reputation on just her second start on a racetrack thanks to a going away victory at Salisbury.

Connections have yet to confirm 100% that Epsom is the target with a trip to the Irish Oaks and the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot also potential targets over the next six weeks, but wherever she pitches up the sky certainly seems to be the limit at this stage.

Stoute has not won the Oaks since Unite crossed the line first in 1987 and it would be no surprise if the legendary trainer was keen to end that drought in 2018 with Sun Maiden.

The John Gosden trained Lah Ti Dar remains the ante-post jolly for the Oaks following her taking success at Newmarket earlier this month but there does look to be a plethora of live competitors for the current market leader. Aidan O'Brien also has a host of potentially lovely fillies heading to Epsom with Chester winner Magic Wand and 1000 Guineas 3rd Happily the two stand out players from Ballydoyle.

The late possible addition of Sun Maiden to the mix is a massive boost for one of the biggest races of the season, with the Oaks now shaping up to be a potentially classic renewal on June 1st.
