The 3 Clubs Who Could Sign Manchester United Star: Arsenal, Tottenham And PSG Set For Bidding War?

The future of Manchester United's Anthony Martial has been thrown into doubt by newspaper reports suggesting that Jose Mourinho has 'lost patience' with the French star and is ready to listen to offers.

The Evening Standard claims Mourinho is ready to cut his losses with the 22-year-old, who became the most expensive teenager in world football when he signed from Monaco for £36m three years ago, and there is the possibility that Arsenal and Tottenham could go head-to-head for his signature. We take a look at the three clubs that could sign Martial and what he would bring to the table...

Arsenal

Gunners fans have been looking for 'the next Thierry Henry' for many years now and the comparisons between the two Frenchmen are remarkable. Both Henry and Martial rose to prominence at Monaco and started out as left wingers before excelling as strikers with electric pace.

Martial still has some way to go to match the goalscoring exploits of Henry of course - he has scored 36 goals and laid on 26 assists in 137 league appearances for the Red Devils so far - but he could thrive at a team that shows faith in his abilities.

The star has been substituted or come off the bench in 44 of his 56 appearances for United under Mourinho and he is reaching a stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular first-team football. Arsenal could be a perfect fit for his abilities and he would be a signing for the future as their current forwards are hardly spring chickens, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now 29 years of age, while Alexandre Lacazette and Danny Welbeck are both 27.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham could challenge Arsenal for the signature of Martial after failing to make a single signing during the summer transfer window. They could do with some new additions as their lack of depth, particularly in the attacking third, could be emphasised by injuries and fatigue affecting key players following a difficult post-World Cup period.

Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino, has made a habit of getting the best out of young players and would surely relish adding the left-sided Frenchman to his squad.

Paris St-Germain
Manchester United might prefer to sell Martial to a club that isn't in the Premier League and newspaper reports actually suggested that Paris Saint-Germain turned down the chance to sign Martial for £70m in the summer because of his high wage demands.

However, the Ligue 1 outfit might be able to sign Martial on the cheap in the next twelve months as the player's contract expires next summer, albeit United will no doubt activate the option of a one-year extension.

Martial may be tempted by a move back to France to link up with the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe as he looks to get his international career back on track. Mbappe, 19, has stolen ahead of Martial as the 'Golden Boy' of French football following some stand-out performances during his country's march to World Cup glory and Martial will recognise the importance of playing regularly as he bids to get his own career back on track.
