Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now the heavy favourite to be handed the Manchester United job on a full-time basis and it will be deserved after a remarkable start to his reign at Old Trafford.
The former club legend made a massive impact on the team during his playing days and he has done exactly the same in the dug out since replacing Jose Mourinho back in December. The club has gone from being stuck in the doldrums to having a genuine chance at Champions League football next season which has to be largely down to the arrival of the new gaffer.
Struggling players have found a new lease of life over the past couple of months at both ends of the pitch and progress has certainly been made, but the fans must know that the rebuilding job at one of the biggest clubs in the world is only just beginning.
The current Manchester United squad is riddled with average players for a club of their size and a number of players must surely know that their time in Manchester is close to being up. For too long now we have seen players not good enough to wear the famous shirt allowed to stay at the club and that has to stop if United are to have any chance of challenging Liverpool and Man city at the top of the table next season.
The Red Devils have been light years away from their two biggest rivals in the table and the time is now to ship out the deadwood and start building towards a better future. There are any number of players who should leave this summer but these three are at the top of our list...
Alexis Sanchez
The Chilean is genuinely turning into one of the worst signings in Premier League history with the former Arsenal man a complete shadow of his former self. Injuries and a lack of form have blighted his spell at United but the time has already come to pull stumps on the 30-year-old and cut him loose at the first opportunity. Get rid.
Phil Jones
The England defender has turned into more of a twitter meme than a top class footballer in recent years and his lack of concentration at the highest level is beginning to harm the team too often. Jones is a good player but not anywhere near the standard Man United need to get back to the top of the table in England and he is one player who could still attract a decent transfer fee if he is let go at the end of the campaign.
Fred
There are no words to describe just how bad Fred has been since his mega money move to England last summer and the situation already appears to be hopeless for the Brazilian. Solskjaer is clearly reluctant to use a player who is drained of confidence and the only sensible option is to move on the midfielder in the summer. It will prove to be a shocking piece of business by United but the former Shakhtar player clearly isn't up to the task in England.
