The 4 Biggest Pay Days In Sport: Justin Rose Pips Tiger Woods To $10m FedEx Cup Jackpot
14:02, 24 Sep 2018

Tiger Woods is the toast of golf after ending his five-year title drought with victory at the Tour Championship on Sunday, although it is Justin Rose who walked away with a cool $10m after winning the FedEx Cup.

Rose claimed the money-spinning title after finishing the season as the leading player on the PGA Tour and it is a remarkable feat for a player who started his career with 21 successive missed cuts. Maybe there is hope for us to become a scratch golfer after all!

We take a look at four of the biggest money prizes in individual sport...

FedEx Cup - $10m
The FedExCup is the championship trophy goes to the leading player at the end of the PGA Tour season and the winner earns the cool $10m that Rose pocketed on Sunday night. Rose needed to birdie the final hole to take a share of 4th place at the Tour Championship, which was enough to see him pip Tiger Woods to the FedEx Cup by a mere 41 points.

Dubai World Cup - $10m
The Dubai World Cup Carnival has been held annually at the Meydan Racecourse since 1996 and the illustrious meeting remains a hugely popular part of horse racing. The winner of the feature race, The Dubai World Cup, earns a stunning $10m - just imagine how many pairs of horseshoes this year's winner, Thunder Snow, has bought...
(*Apparently winnings go to the owners and connections, not the individual horse).

World Series Of Poker - $10m
Now, there will be much debate about whether poker is even a sport. It is certainly debatable how much physical exertion is involved, although there is plenty of skill and no shortage of luck.

There is also heaps of pressure as players are battling it out for huge prize money. It is perhaps the one sport those of us who don't have the sporting physique of Rafael Nadal, four legs like Snow Thunder or the putting ability of Justin Rose can turn our hands to.

The 2018 winner of the World Series Of Poker, John Cynn, won $8.8m. Now, where's my deck of cards?

US Open Tennis - $3.8m
The US Open takes place at Flushing Meadows each year and the winners in New York receive the most prize money out of the four tennis majors. The male and female winners of the French Open each receive $2.7m, the Australian Open winners get $3.2m and the Wimbledon victors earn $2.91m.

However, the most lucrative major to win is the US Open as Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka each walked away with $3.8m earlier this month.
