What do James Bond and Roman Abramovich have in common? No this isn’t an early Christmas cracker joke or the opening line of No Time To Die, we are talking about superyachts. The most outlandish, expensive, ridiculous vessels on the ocean are those saved for the rich and now there is a new one, as good looking as its predecessors, but quicker than ever.
Dubbed the supercar of the seas, Say Carbon Yachts have taken inspiration from fellow German auto manufacturers BMW, Porsche and Mercedes, all three of who know a thing or two about speed. “There is a clear connection with automotive design,” says Karl Wagner, CEO of Say Carbon. “So much so that I’d call the 42 a supercar on the water.”
Speed and power go together hand in hand and the Say 42 gets its unbelievable power from twin v8 propulsion engines, that total a whopping 860 horsepower. Made almost entirely of carbon fibre this boat is seriously light meaning it can reach lightning speeds of up to 58 miles per hour - on water! There are some economical benefits to the carbon fibre shell as well, this boat, given its lightness, uses 50 percent less fuel as other yachts that can go this quickly. Low weight, high speed, massive acceleration, sounds like a supercar to us.
It also comes with a supercar price at £800,000. There is no getting around that price tag. However, for that sum, you do get style and comfort as well as sheer speed. There is a sun lounge on the wide side deck, an exterior table that six can sit around and two super cool carbon fibre helm seats. Below deck meanwhile, you can enjoy a large cabin with more carbon fibre in the form of an electric door.
That door leads to a luxury room with more seating and a skylight to see the stars or sun, as well as a fully equipped bathroom with shower and toilet. This makes it perfect for day trips on the sea, and not just a quick blast around the Mediterranean.
