Jose Mourinho has enjoyed some of his greatest moments in the game at Stamford Bridge; winning back-to-back Premier League titles in 2006 during his first spell as Chelsea manager and lifting the title again in 2015 while at the club for his second spell in charge.
But returning to West London as an opposition manager the Portuguese has enjoyed little success in the away dugout with only one win to date and none as Manchester United boss in his three attempts to date.
So ahead of the clash on Saturday his wretched record at the Bridge for the Reds will make alarming reading for United fans ahead of what is surely their biggest test of the season so far.
Chelsea 0-1 Inter (Champions League), March 2010
Samuel Eto's clinical strike on 79 minutes was enough to settle a scrappy encounter in Jose Mourinho’s first visit to Stamford Bridge since leaving the Blues in 2007 to seal a place in the last eight of the Champions League in what is his only win on the ground as an opposing boss to date.
A bad tempered affair saw the Inter manager receive abuse from some sections of the home support while Didier Drogba was given a red card in the closing minutes after a clash with Thiago Motta and although his coaches celebrated the win wildly, Mourinho remained restrained on the opposition bench against his old side.
Chelsea 4-0 Man Utd, October, 2016
The first of three meetings between the two sides during the 2016/17 season saw Jose Mourinho embarrassed at Stamford Bridge as the eventual champions put four past his new side. He’d received a warm welcome from the home fans before the game though his old team weren’t so charitable, taking just 30 seconds to spoil his return when Pedro pounced on a defensive error to open the scoring.
Further strikes from Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante secured a comfortable win for the home side and Mourinho's frustrations became evident at the final whistle as he argued with his opposite number Antonio Conte about what he felt were his excessive celebrations.
Chelsea 1-0 Man Utd (FA Cup), March 2017
Four months after their 4-0 humiliation United and Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge looking to avenge the defeat but once again left West London with nothing after N'Golo Kante scored the only goal of the game for the home side.
To make matters worse for Mourinho Ander Herrera saw red after two late first-half tackles on Eden Hazard in a hot-blooded encounter which saw the United boss and Antonio Conte separated by the fourth official on a number of occasions.
Chelsea 1-0 Man Utd, November 2017
Alvaro Morata's 55th-minute header in November of last year didn’t just seal a 1-0 win for Chelsea over Manchester United, who fell some eight points behind league leaders Manchester City in the process; it also confirmed Jose Mourinho’s third consecutive loss at Stamford Bridge as United boss.
Morata, who had revealed that he had been approached by United before signing for the Blues in the summer, headed home Cesar Azpilicueta's cross to ease some of the pressure on Antonio Conte while once again ensuring the self-proclaimed, “special one,” would be leaving the capital on the losing side.
