Football management is a frantic and all-consuming business which at times completely fries the brain.
Things can also become a little tricky if you’re doing an interview that isn’t in your chosen language, as the ex-Hull, CSKA Moscow and Russia national manager, Leonid Slutsky, who was once linked with a role at Chelsea, found out in his pre-match interview.
Slutsky is currently plying his trade over in Holland with Vitesse Arnhem who faced-off against leaders PSV Eindhoven on Saturday.
Slutsky's future has been up in the air and he was probed by the interviewer about whether he was set to become the new manager of Sporting Lisbon. However, the boss dismissed the speculation as mere “gossip” and stated that he was fully focused on the match ahead.
However, the reporter was having none of it and continued to poke the stick:
“So, for definite, you’re not going there?”
To which Slutsky let out this unintentionally hilarious line:
"Yes, if only the owner or the director ‘suck’ me, yes, in this situation I will go out."
“Excuse me???,” the interviewer let out in a stunned reply.
“If the owner will ‘suck’ me of course,” said Slutsky again, before the interviewer suddenly realised the error: “Oh ok, so the owner will ‘sack’ you!”
Slutsky would go on to claim that he will be definitely be staying put, so you can probably expect him to leave in the next few days such is the way of the way of football management.
