Steven Gerrard’s documentary ‘Make Us Dream’ lands in cinemas today, and while the spine-tingling biopic of the Liverpool legend’s career will be jam-packed with goosebump moments, it’s also a painful reminder of how agonisingly close the club came to Premier League glory back in 2014.

Fast forward four-and-half-years and Liverpool once again find themselves in a gripping battle with Man City and Chelsea for English football’s most coveted trophy.

The trio remain unbeaten after 12 games, the 2nd-placed Reds two points behind Pep Guardiola’s leaders. However, the defending champions have dazzled in a way Liverpool haven’t so far this season, with the Citizens simply scintillating at times, especially of late, spanking a combined 14 goals in the obliterations of Burnley and Southampton, and the comprehensive victory over Man Utd.

Liverpool may now boast a strength in depth that’s been tellingly absent in previous campaigns, but Xherdan Shaqiri aside, the club lacks a dynamic winger that can offer stern competition to the fabled front three.

While their defence has excelled, Liverpool haven’t been as gluteness in front of goal, but their relatively muted attack could be given a sprinkle of razzmatazz through the arrival of Christian Pulisic.

The American’s panache, spark, and eye for a killer ball would be a valuable addition to Jurgen Klopp’s ranks. Liverpool were hotly linked with the player a couple of years ago, but their £11million bid was rejected by Borussia Dortmund, only for the 20-year-old to once again crop up on their radar in the summer after he bagged the brace against them in a pre-season friendly.

Klopp, a big fan, previously told the Liverpool Echo:

"I like Christian, I've known him since he was a kid. He's still not really old, he’s a fantastic player, and it’s deserved people think highly of him in America. In Germany it’s the same.

"If he wants to play in England or whatever one day then for sure he has the chance to do so but he’s at a really good club for his development at this moment. It's really good to be at a club where they know him already."

The winger, who has the chance to thrive on English soil at Wembley tonight (Thursday) as the USA look to spoil Wayne Rooney’s England swan song, has dropped his biggest hint yet that his future lies in the Premier League.

“England, the Premier League, is a league where lots of kids dream of playing so there is no reason why maybe one day I won’t play here,” said Pulisic.

“As you can see, we are having a great year at Dortmund and I am enjoying every moment of that. Then when the time comes for me to talk in the breaks about my future, then that’s when those things happen.”

Chelsea and Tottenham are also believed to be keen on prizing the Dortmund star over to these shores, but Klopp’s links to Dortmund, and his attractive style of play, means that Liverpool may have a slight advantage in the race for his signature.
