The American muscle car. For decades, the leading light in the American automobile industry but now, there is a new kid on the block. A brand spanking new, 21st century hypercar that could just change the way we think about electric vehicles.
The Elation Freedom, to be built in California, is a 1,427 bhp rocketship that is seriously pushing boundaries. After five years of research and development, the first All-American electric hypercar which has a range of 400 miles and can hit 260 mph is now in production and should be on sale in 2022.
Elation will make every limited edition Freedom by hand, fitting three electric motors to a carbon fibre monocoque chassis. Yep, this is going to be seriously quick. In fact, if the trio of electric motors isn’t enough for you, you can even add a staggering fourth motor that takes the power up from an insane 1,427 bhp to a quite frankly ridiculous 1,903 bhp. That is barmy. More impressive, the three motored edition will weigh just 1,650 kilograms thanks to all that carbon fibre.
Carlos Satulovsky, founder and CEO of Elation, has stated in an email that the Freedom will do 0-60mph in just 1.8 seconds - and that is merely a conservative estimate. Weight distribution and double wishbone suspension means it should fly around the corners before you can floor it on the straights. Heavily influenced by racers, with designers who have worked in both Formula 1 and at the Le Mans 24hr race, this car is about pure, unadulterated speed.
You’ll have to leave the kids at home, as this environmentally friendly fighter jet only has two seats. With aviation grade leather and carbon fibre inside, it certainly looks a lovely place to be while customisation is where this car could appeal to its target market. Materials, metals and even gemstones can be added to the interior while you shouldn’t have to worry about range anxiety. The base model will give you 300 miles but it is worth spending that extra dough on the upgraded pack which will give you an added 100 miles of range.
This sort of innovation doesn’t come cheap. The EV will start at £1.5 million pounds, so you’ve got just over two years to get saving, but the US have finally joined the electric car revolution. You can find out more here.
