A WWE mystery dominated social media this week, with rampant speculation over the true meaning behind the videos doing the rounds. So what exactly was the reason for Vince McMahon’s surprise appearance at UFC 276?

The McMahons Arrive Octagon-Side

WWE’s presence was felt strongly at UFC’s latest pay-per-view offering. Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya made waves with his Undertaker inspired entrance, complete with theme music and signature urn. Meanwhile, WWE chairman Vince McMahon was in attendance.

The 76-year-old rarely ventures outside the confines of pro wrestling, so a public appearance such as this is rare. McMahon temporarily stood down from his duties as CEO and chairman last month pending an investigation into allegations of misconduct stemming from a relationship with an employee. The former WWE and ECW champion was joined by daughter Stephanie McMahon, who has assumed his duties for the time being. Son-in-law Triple H and WWE commentator and part-time wrestler Pat McAfee were also in the party.

This reads like another act of defiance from McMahon, after he responded to the allegations by addressing the crowd live on a recent episode of Smackdown.

WWE Tease Mystery Man

WWE aired a mysterious video vignette during the Money In The Bank event on Saturday night. The spooky aesthetic and high-drama of the clip had social media frenziedly looking for clues. Many assume the gothic theme pointed to the return of Bray Wyatt, but amateur sleuths online have pointed to a simpler solution.

The video featured a ‘Latino Heat’ license plate, an Olympic gold medal, taped-up spectacles and a pair of purple armbands. These props will be familiar to wrestling fans as belonging to Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, the Dudley Boyz and Jeff Hardy respectively. The clear through-link of this group of individuals is Edge, who had classic feuds with all of the above.

‘The Rated R Superstar’ has been off television for a few weeks, since Finn Balor attacked him and seized control of The Judgment Day faction. This video could be indicative of Edge reaching into his past to find the impetus to take his old group apart. Or it could be evidence the internet has too much time on its hands and it's actually hype for a Doink The Clown comeback. Time will tell.

AEW Blood and Guts

All Elite Wrestling staged their second-ever Blood and Guts match on Dynamite last week. It was the first time the War Games-inspired cage bout has taken place in front of a capacity crowd. In 2021, the inaugural B&G bout was capped at 50% attendance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s chaotic battle sawn Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta of the Blackpool Combat Club, who teamed with Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz to defeat the Jericho Appreciation Society. The highlight came when Sammy Guevera was thrown from the top of the giant cage by Kingston, taking a brutal bump through a table below. AEW’s annual violent spectacle lived up to the billing, and if protected, will continue to thrill audiences for years to come.
