The Moment Not One But Two Leaders Fall At Wetherby With Race At Their Mercy

The Moment Not One But Two Leaders Fall At Wetherby With Race At Their Mercy
19:47, 20 Feb 2018

Who would have thought a Tuesday afternoon at Wetherby could throw up so drama!?!

Well that was exactly the case in the 4.05pm at the Yorkshire track, the Follow Racing UK On Twitter Handicap Hurdle. The 9/2 chance Northern Girl trained by Phil Kirby looked to have the race at her mercy before tripping at the last flight, opening the door for Rebecca Menzies' Dulce Panem.

Or so we thought!

The six year old hurdled the last with no problem but tripped over the forlorn Northern Girl who was still trying to get up and brought down the 13/2 chance ridden by Connor O'Farrell.

Third placed Along Came Theo looked primed to take the race as a result with a good eight length lead after the last, but the 9/4 favourite idled in front opening the door for, Pookie Pekan, who was far enough back to assess the carnage in front of him and successfully take the final flight and the race at 11/1 for Stuart Coltherd with son Sam in the saddle.

Each way backers of the 100/1 shot My Brown Eyed Girl will have been delighted to see what unfolded in front of their pick!

No horses or jockeys were hurt, watch the race ending below:
