Liverpool may be well covered in the goalkeeper department, but that hasn’t prevented the Premier League leaders from showcasing an interest in the highly-rated French shot-stopper Dominique Youfeigane.
The 18-year-old currently plies his trade over in France at EA Guingamp where a string of impressive performances for the club’s youth team (U19) has subsequently caught the attention of Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, while Leicester City, Brighton, Marseille, and AS Monaco are also believed to be keen to snap up the talented youngster.
Youfeigane, who is on a trainee contract, also earned his first call-up for the France U19 back in September 2018, where he kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over India.
Liverpool broke the bank to sign Alisson in the summer for a then world record £66.8m for a keeper. The Brazilian has since impressed in between the sticks, conceding only 10 goals in 21 league games - the least in the Premier League, while he has 14 clean sheets in 27 appearances in all competitions.
Back-up keeper Simon Mignolet has been restricted to just two cup appearances this season, and with this in mind the Belgian could be tempted to leave the club in pursuit of first-team football. Meanwhile, Loris Karius is currently on-loan at Turkish side Besiktas.
French publication Foot Mercato now reports that Liverpool could swoop in for Youfeigane who will no doubt be buoyed by Klopp’s focus on developing young talent, with the likes of Rafael Camacho, Curtis Jones, and Ki-Jana However taking to the field for the Wolves clash earlier this week.
Should a transfer be completed, who knows, maybe one day he could replace Alisson as the club's first choice in between the posts.
