The Papa John’s Trophy draw has been made to decide the groups each of the 16 chosen Premier League under-21 sides will enter for the 2022-23 competition.
The draw was made live on Sky Sports by Clinton Morrison and Michael Dawson who oversaw both the northern and southern draws to complete the 16 groups for the upcoming season.
The League One and Two sides knew their fellow EFL opponents two days ago but were waiting until this morning to find out which young scholars of the Premier League they will be battling out with in the group stage. Last year, Spurs, West Ham and Crystal Palace crashed out in the group stages of the competition. Chelsea navigated their way into the third round but were bested by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners could only reach the quarter-finals as they lost to Wigan when the north and south sections combined.
