Le Classique lived up to expectations once again this weekend as PSG battled past Marseille, eventually winning 2-0 in a high-paced encounter. Kylian Mbappe bagged the opening goal just minutes after coming off the bench, before Julian Draxler sealed the points in injury time to maintain PSG’s perfect start to the domestic season.

That win sees them set a new French record as they have now won their opening 11 games of the league season. Although they sit pretty at the top of the league, manager Thomas Tuchel was not happy with midfielder Adrien Rabiot or star man Kylian Mbappe as they turned up late to a team meeting.

The two regular starters were punished by being dropped to the bench for Le Classique and although they both came on during the game, Tuchel was keen to rule with an iron fist and ensure ill-discipline and complacency does not creep into his talented side.

It was a move that paid of in the end as Mbappe came off the bench to make the difference, but the reason the two stars were late to the team meeting has now been revealed. According to French media outlets, both players were watching the end of El Clasico, between Barcelona and Real Madrid and by watching the conclusion of the game, they were late for the scheduled team meeting.

Mbappe and Rabiot both witnessed Barca’s 5-1 demolition of their arch-rivals, which saw Julen Lopetegui sacked from his post as Real Madrid manager. Several names now lead the betting with Roberto Martinez emerging as a leading candidate for Los Blancos.

In fairness to Mbappe and Rabiot, we have all been there. Watching the last few minutes of a big game which has then made us late for work. Woops.
