The Sportsman Day Out: Contrasting Emotions Of The Manchester Derby

The Sportsman ventured over to the Etihad on Manchester derby day in what we thought would result in Pep Guardiola's men lifting the Premier League title in record-breaking fashion.

However, we were wrong, so very wrong as Jose Mourinho's Manchester United ruptured the party after they conjured up one of the most remarkable Premier League comebacks in recent years.

While City will inevitably go on and clinch their third top-flight title in seven years, United will have taken immense pride in spoiling the Citizens' big day.

In the video below we soaked up the frenzied atmosphere, catching up with excited Man City fans in the build-up to the eagerly anticipated derby, and finding out just what they think of that man Mourinho, along with their pre-match predictions.

At half-time the hosts were loving life as they headed into the break 2-0 up, courtesy of goals from skipper Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gudogan, following a dominant first-half display.

But fast-forward to the final whistle and it was the jubilant red-half of the city that was in full voice as they skipped, danced and sang their way out of the Etihad after witnessing an incredible 3-2 fightback.

Paul Pogba, a mere bystander in the opening 45 minutes, came alive after the restart, bagging a 97-second brace to turn the game on its head, leaving City shell-shocked.

Then in the 69th minute, Chris Smalling redeemed himself - he was at fault for Kompany's opening goal - by volleying home from an Alexis Sanchez free-kick to send the visiting support into raptures.

United held on to win 3-2 thanks to some simply stunning saves from keeper David de Gea as they delayed Ciy's title parade, for now.
