Though missing out on automatic promotion to the Betfred Championship, Workington Town RLFC have one more chance to secure a place in the game’s second tier next season as they welcome Doncaster to Derwent Park on Sunday in a bid to join fellow Cumbrians Barrow Raiders and Whitehaven.
After Doncaster beat Keighley Cougars with a last-gasp winner on Sunday, they will head over the border to Lancashire full of confidence, added to the fact they’ve already beaten Workington Town away from home this season 26-24.
Workington Town boss Chris Thorman is aware of the challenge Doncaster will bring, telling Cumbria Crack: “We’ll be coming up against a very confident Doncaster side that have probably been the best side we’ve faced this season, so we’ll have to be at our best to beat them.
“We have the advantage of playing at Derwent Park in front of our fantastic supporters and I know they’ll be going all out to make sure they get us over the line. There’s so much at stake and I’ve not been this excited for a game in a very long time.”
