This is the most dramatic end to a horse race that you have ever seen!
Carnage and chaos marred the closing stage of the Growise Champion Novice Chase at Punchestown as horses fell left, right and centre, two went the wrong way as The Storyteller capitalised on a strange finish to win by a clear margin. Jockey Paul Towned has been banned for 21 days for dangerous riding and ordered to forfeit his riding fee after his part in this debacle.
The race was going smoothly heading into the final stages as all starting 11 horses picked up the pace heading towards the finish.
Monalee, the pre-race favourite was going well but started the drama as he took a fall two fences from home, hampering Invitation Only, who threw David Mullins off his back.
Al Boum Photo then took then lead and looked in command before jockey Paul Townend seemingly tried to move himself into a better position on the track, by the rail, but in doing so ended up taking both himself and Finian's Oscar out of the race. Townend appeared to have been going the wrong way before crashing into the barrier
The Storyteller, who won at last month's Cheltenham Festival, was left in front and galloped on under the stewardship of Davy Russell to bag a one-two-three for Gordon Elliott, with Monbeg Notorious and Jury Duty eventually picking up the pieces to finish second and third respectively.
Thankfully, all the horses and jockeys returned home safely after a few nasty looking falls. You simply have to see the end of this race down below.
