The Supreme Stats That Show Chelsea Must Do Everything In Their Power To Hold On To Eden Hazard Amid Real Madrid Interest
Chelsea held on to battle past Newcastle 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, and in the process move to within one point of Tottenham (3rd) and six points clear of 5th-placed Arsenal.
Pedro put the Blues a goal up after only nine minutes, only for the Toon to draw level just before the break through Ciaran Clarke. However, Willian restored the lead in the 57th minute and the hosts went on to secure the three points as they claimed their 14th league win of the season.
Willian grabbed the plaudits, but it was Eden Hazard who assisted the game-winner and in turn bag his 10th league assist of the season - the most of any player in the top-flight.
Hazard’s tally of 10 goals is the fourth highest in the division, while he leads the way in Man of the Matches(8), successful take-ons (60), chances created (58), and fouls won (66). Meanwhile, Lionel Messi is the only other player in the top-five European leagues to have bagged 10 goals and 10 assists so far this season.
In other words, Chelsea have to do everything within their power to persuade Hazard to stay at the club. Otherwise, his departure could prove to be extremely damaging.
This could prove to be a difficult task, with the Belgian previously dropping small hints that his future could lie elsewhere. Although, he recently stated after scoring his 100th Chelsea goal that he wanted to become a Chelsea legend like Frank Lampard, John Terry, and Didier Drogba.
The two-time Premier League winner has been hotly linked with a sensational switch to Real Madrid for some time now, and given the Spanish giants’ stuttering league campaign there are murmurings that they could even make a monster move this transfer window.
An approach in the summer appears more probable with Hazard’s current contract expiring in June 2020, although Chelsea could soon have a new face in the dressing room with striker Gonzalo Higuain expected to arrive before the transfer window slams shut.
