The Worst Stadium Names In World Sport

Stadium names are certainly not what they use to be. Gone are the days of Maine Road, Highbury and Filbert Street, replaced instead in this world of commercialisation by hilarious sponsor names leading to some rather interesting stadium names. We look at our favourites below.

Dick’s Sporting Goods Park

The home of the Colorado Rapids kicks us of here. America seems to have a trend in providing hilarious stadium names as we will see. At least this one is sports related I guess?

KFC Yum! Center

USA again. A terrible blend of KFC and Yum! has led to this monstrosity. Home of the Louisville Cardinals.

Stade de Suisse Wankdorf

Home of the Young Boys. Nothing funny about that at all.

Chris Moyles Stadium

The Radio 1 DJ had Featherstone Rovers’ ground names after him for a while following a public vote. Unfortunately for lovers of the 43-year-old they reverted the change and it is now known as Post Office Road.

Totally Wicked Stadium

Rugby League certainly excels in this feature and St Helens' Totally Wicked Stadium is a stunning name. It holds 18,000 totally wicked spectators who love to watch some totally wicked Rugby.

Mend-a-Hose Jungle

Where to even start with this one. Castleford Tigers’ Wheldon Road was sponsored and renamed the Mend-a-Hose Jungle.  A nice old stadium with a shocking name.

Tony Macaroni Arena

My personal favourite. The Tony Macaroni Arena is the home of Scottish League One champions Livingston and has been sponsored by a popular Italian restaurant north of the border. I’m sure this was the name of a nursery rhyme character…

KitKat Crescent

York City’s home ground is now called a much more sensible Bootham Crescent but for a magical period between 2005 and 2010 chocolate giants KitKat sponsored the stadium and it was known as KitKat Crescent.

A really snappy name.
