Manchester United have added another name to their wish-list, with the January transfer window opening straight after New Year and the club intent - with new interim manager and legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - on righting what has been a beleaguered ship.

United have been heavily linked with numerous defenders even before the previous summer but it is an attacker than the 13-time Premier League champions are now apparently interested in.

Juventus’ Douglas Costa is that marked man, and The Mail takes reports from The Sun that recently departed manager Jose Mourinho was aware of the plans to bring the Brazilian to Old Trafford before being dismissed earlier on in the week.

Brazilian winger Costa was bought by Juventus on a permanent basis in the summer, after an impressive debut season on loan from Bayern Munich.

However the monumental arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid has dented Costa’s intentions to feature fully in the Juventus full-team set-up.

Costa has featured in 11 Serie A games for The Old Lady this season, but started just three.

In their last three matches, Costa has had just 25 minutes of on-field action, being left on the bench altogether by manager Massimiliano Allegri in their last 1-0 win over Torino in the Derby.

In the Champions League this season, which Costa would be ineligible to feature in if he moves to Old Trafford, he must have caught the eye to the United hierarchy in Juventus’ 1-0 win at The Theatre of Dreams when he was substituted just three minutes from time after a stellar performance.

A natural right winger, at United Costa would likely complement the scintillating Anthony Martial on the opposite flank. He would also reunite with compatriot Fred, who became a Red Devil in a £47million move in the summer, and with whom Costa previously spent two seasons with at Shakhtar Donetsk.
