Tiger Woods Headlines Star Studded Genesis Open At Riviera Country Club

Tiger Woods makes his second start of the season at this week’s Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. Woods will be joined by many of golf’s top names, including defending champion Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Phil Mickelson, and Tommy Fleetwood in a star-studded tournament which promises to captivate and enthral.

Woods made his eagerly anticipated return to the sport last month at the Farmers Insurance Open, finishing in a promising T23 - his first top-25 standing since 2015. When he steps up to the first tee on Thursday he’ll no doubt feel a sense of nostalgia, as it was at this very event - then titled the “Nissan Open” - where the American made his first PGA Tour start all the way back in 1992.

Woods has surprisingly never conquered his home tournament, although he hasn’t played in it since 2006, but you can find him out at 50/1 to bag his first PGA Tour victory since the 2013 Bridgestone Invitational, and 11/2 to bag a spot in the top-10. If the 42-year-old does triumph it will be his landmark 80th PGA tour success, which would draw him to within two of Sam Snead’s all-time record.

Johnson tops the betting at 5/1, which is no surprise considering the American came top of the pile last year, and was runner-up in each of the 2014 and 2015 editions. The World No.1 is an obvious pick for glory, but given his short price it’s perhaps worth looking at the multi-talented chasing pack: McIlroy, Spieth, and Thomas. McIlroy and Spieth catch the eye at 18/1 to grab the spoils, while the defending FedEx Cup champion Thomas represents a tasty bet at 25/1.

Bubba Watson, 50/1, is a two-time champion at the event (2014 & 2016), but his form in the last couple of years has been very patchy, with his last win dating back two years ago.

Another player with a brace of wins at the Genesis Open is Phil Mickelson (2008 & 2009) who heads into the tournament on the back of consecutive top-5 finishes, making Lefty a tempting bet at 33/1 to finally end a tour drought which stretches back to 2013.
