Tottenham Hotspur Anger Fans By Delaying Move To New Stadium By Over A Month

Spurs’ move to their new stadium has been delayed for almost a month after an issue with the critical safety systems at the venue was uncovered. This means that their Premier League games against Liverpool on the 15th September and Cardiff on 6th October will now be played at Wembley, where they have played all of their home games since White Hart Lane was demolished. The NFL game scheduled for 14th October has now also been moved.

Chairman, Daniel Levy, told the club website: “We know this will be disappointing for all our season tickets holders, premium members and our fans worldwide. We appreciate the support our partner the NFL has shown since the extent of this issue became evident today. At the start of the project we asked for your support during what we knew would be a complex and challenging build and now we ask for your continued patience and forbearance.”

Meanwhile,Mark Waller, who is the NFL Executive Vice-President said: “Everyone has been so excited about the prospect of playing in the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and I know all at the Club are very disappointed, but determined to clear this final hurdle. We totally understand the issue. We shall continue to work with them towards making our future games at Spurs a huge success. The new stadium will be an amazing venue for the NFL and we are very excited about our long-term partnership with Tottenham Hotspur.”

This delay could extend until the New Year if the issues are not solved and the club have already put measures in place to secure the national stadium until 2019, according to The Sun.

Spurs fans must be absolutely raging at this news having been promised a new stadium for the brand new Premier League season. Many away fans were also looking forward to the trip and will now be left disappointed.

For a stadium that cost almost £1 billion, you would have thought they could get it ready in time!
