Mauricio Pochettino elected to head into the new Premier League season with no new faces at Tottenham Hotspur, but a quiet summer in the transfer market could be eclipsed when the January transfer window opens with the Argentine boss eyeing up a ground-breaking €40m deal for Napoli's central midfield star Allan.
According to CalcioNapoli24, Spurs are looking to strengthen their squad as they look to push Manchester City for Premier League glory and that publication reports that Spurs are ready to launch a €40m bid for the Brazilian international, who has been a key figure for the Serie A giants.
It's likely that Pochettino is set to offload Mousa Dembele in either January or in the summer and the Belgian's exit from north London will leave a hole in Spurs' midfield operation, so Allan could be an ideal fit for a club still in a positive mood after their 3-1 annihilation of Chelsea at the weekend.
A star for Udinese, 27-year-old Allan moved to Napoli in 2015 and has been one of their star assets in recent seasons, but while Spurs have reportedly put aside the funds for the Brazilian's signature it's unsure whether the Italian side are ready to let him go to the Premier League, and they may try to push for more money from Pochettino and the Spurs board.
Davinson Sanchez was a record €40m signing from Ajax and Allan will cost at least the same to bolster an in-form Spurs squad, so while much is being made of the delay to White Hart Lane, Spurs fans can possibly look forward to welcoming a new face to the club in the foreseeable future.
