Tottenham Ready To Splash The Cash In A Bid To Beat Everton To Signing Of Barcelona Star

This is not a drill. Reports suggest Tottenham Hotspur are finally ready to spend some money. Yes, the same Tottenham that went through the summer transfer window without spending a penny (except on their delayed new stadium) have been linked with a sensational move for Barcelona's Andre Gomes.

The midfielder is currently enjoying a loan spell with Tottenham's Premier League rivals Everton, where he has played a starring role in recent weeks, and The Sun have suggested that Spurs are ready to make a move for the Portuguese international.

The Sun suggest that Tottenham owner, Daniel Levy, has been stung into action by the rumoured interest in Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and Levy has recognised that he may need to make funds available if he is to stop his manager jumping ship for Real Madrid or Manchester United.

Gomes is apparently a prime target and Tottenham are keen to make a move to sign the 25-year-old on a permanent deal, although they will face a battle with Everton for his services.

Gomes missed the start of the season through injury but he has become a prominent part of Marco Silva's plans at Goodison Park and the Merseyside club were hoping to make the current loan transfer permanent.

It seems as if a transfer tug-of-war could ensue though as Gomes appears to be surplus to requirements at Barcelona, for whom he played 46 La Liga games.

Gomes started his career with Benfica and then spent a season on loan at Valencia before moving to the Mestalla permanently in 2015. He was then snapped up for €35m by Barca in 2016 and he looks set for another move, with Tottenham and Everton leading the race for his signature.
