Tottenham v Liverpool Combined XI: Reds Players Dominate Our Premier League Team For Wembley
20:55, 13 Sep 2018

Tottenham have been rocked by the news that Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris will miss Saturday lunchtime's Premier League clash with Liverpool and those absentees have serious implications for The Sportsman's combined XI.

Lloris would have been a shoe-in for the No. 1 jersey but his absence ensures Liverpool's Alisson gets the nod, while Alli would have been contending for one of the midfield spots in our adventurous 3-5-2 system. What do you think of our picks? Let us know who would have made your team...

Alisson Becker (Liverpool)
The injury to Lloris ensures the goalkeeper's jersey goes to Alisson Becker, despite his gaffe in their 2-1 win at Leicester before the international break. A wonderful shot-stopper, although hopefully there won't be any more errors when he has the ball at his feet!

Joe Gomez (Liverpool)
The rise of Joe Gomez has been astounding and he is sure to keep the more experienced Dejan Lovren out of Liverpool's first team in the coming weeks. The English centre-half has formed a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk.

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
Our captain and leader at the heart of our three-man defence. Virgil van Dijk has been the catalyst behind Liverpool's massive improvements defensively, with the Reds keeping three clean sheets in their first four games of the season.

Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham)
Mr Consistent. Jan Vertonghen rarely puts a foot wrong for club or country, whether displaying composure on the ball, a wonderful eye for a pass or a superb positional sense.

Kieran Trippier (Tottenham)
The Tottenham full-back gets the nod in the wing-back position for us. A threat from set-pieces, Trippier was one of the brightest performers for England at the World Cup and just edges ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold for us.

Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)
The 24-year-old Scot was lining up for Dundee United in 2014 before moving to Hull for just over £3m and his ascent to the Liverpool starting line-up has been nothing short of astonishing. A deserved pick ahead of Ben Davies and Danny Rose.

Lucas Moura (Tottenham)
Lucas Moura has been a revelation for Tottenham this season, scoring three goals in four games, and he forms part of our adventurous three-man midfield.

James Milner (Liverpool)
James Milner is the engine in our midfield following another wonderful start to the campaign and he is the heartbeat of our team, getting the nod ahead of Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson.

Christian Eriksen (Tottenham)
The Tottenham playmaker has been relatively quiet for Tottenham this season but he again showed his class for Denmark during the international break, scoring in the win over Wales, and he goes straight into our midfield.

Mo Salah (Liverpool)
The Liverpool star and PFA player of last season has pretty much continued where he left off, scoring two goals and laying on two assists in his four appearances for the Reds.

Sadio Mane (Liverpool)
Liverpool's stand-out player (and there have been a few) from the formative weeks of the campaign, Sadio Mane has banged in four goals in four games and comfortably makes our team.

Harry Kane (Tottenham)
Our centre-forward has to be Harry Kane as he has scored two goals so far, breaking his August hoodoo in the process, despite looking a little 'leggy' since the World Cup. Roberto Firmino has scored one and set up two so far this term, although he doesn't quite offer the same clinical touch in front of goal as the Spurs man.
